Dear Garden Community, Well, we made it through the first few days and what a joy it was to reconnect with students both on campus and in remote learning spaces. Though the tech may not have cooperated perfectly in those initial hours and a monsoon accompanied our first drop off, we’d say that this was by and large a great start to the year. We know it will just get better every day.

Dear Garden Community,

Well, we made it through the first few days and what a joy it was to reconnect with students both on campus and in remote learning spaces. Though the tech may not have cooperated perfectly in those initial hours and a monsoon accompanied our first drop off, we’d say that this was by and large a great start to the year. We know it will just get better every day.

At this point, we are excited to begin to look beyond just opening the school. As you know this is my first year and we are due to update our strategic plan. The board and I have been engaging in a dialogue about the value of developing a collaborative and inclusive strategic planning process. We are calling it the Garden Road to 100 and we are pleased to announce the official launch of that process today.

We want as much participation as possible in the process and encourage everyone in the community to join in. Details about the Garden Road to 100 can be found here. To get us started, we would appreciate lots of responses to this survey asking just a few central guiding questions. Your responses will have a significant impact on how the next pieces of this process take shape, so please do not miss the opportunity to share your perspectives and impressions.

Thank you again for all the support, communication, and compliance as we prepared for this September. I have to say that I feel so fortunate both as a parent and staff member here that the Garden team went to the lengths it did to make opening possible. If these first days are any indication, I’d say we are all in for a great year.

Best,
Chris

Garden Communication 20-21
Communication is key and we wanted to be sure that you knew what to expect from us with regards to communication.

  • On the first Friday of each month, you will receive this all-school communication called The Griffin. This monthly publication will cover topics from grades Nursery through 12th and will come from the Head of School, Chris Herman.
  • Every other Friday, you will receive either The 79th Street Gate, a newsletter for the Lower Division families from Mr. Vogel, or The Courtyard, a newsletter for Upper Division families from Mr. Battaglia.

Naturally, there are emails here and there from teachers or Deans, but our goal is to consolidate and organize communication so that these newsletters will be your one stop shop for all necessary and useful information.

Friday Face Off
On Friday, September 25th, Garden will be holding a Face Off Mask Competition. In this all-school face off, awards will be given for categories like Most Original, Most Garden Themed, Best Group Masks (great for siblings and friends), and Best Faculty/Staff Mask. Be sure to get started on your mask and see if you can take home one of these coveted awards!

*All masks must be safe, appropriate for school, and still follow CDC mask guidelines.

New Staff
This year we welcome three new staff member to the Garden School. Meet Mr. Orlowski, Ms. Sullivan, and Mr. Zach:
Time for Swimming
Garden is among the few independent schools to have a pool on campus. Since it is still warm, students in grades one through seven may have the opportunity to swim during the day beginning Monday, September 14th. To be prepared, students should have a bathing suit, towel, and foot gear for walking to the pool. In order for your child to swim, please complete this simple online form
